An ultrasound is getting a new lease of life at the Animal Welfare Society Helderberg where it will now help the team assess their animal patients in a way more advanced way!

Helderberg, South Africa (24 April 2024) — Earlier this month, the Animal Welfare Society Helderberg got the chance to give an ultrasound machine a second chance at saving lives, thanks to a special donation from SCP Radiology!

Unlike other items that have a lifecycle, when ultrasound machines have paid their dues to private practices, they are often still viable and can be put to great use after being serviced.

For the AWS Helderberg, the ultrasound gift will play a big role in helping image and visually assess undiagnosed lumps and possible bowel-related obstructions in their animal patients; a massive sigh of relief considering that before this, much of what the AWS relief on was their team’s inclinations.

“I cannot begin to express my gratitude to all involved in the donation,” said General Manager Julia Evans. “Unfortunately, the rule of thumb for us over the years has been guesswork. This donation makes it much easier, and in every sense of the world.”

“Ever-improving technology meant that the ultrasound machine we donated had made way for new state-of-the-art technology capable of better quality imaging,” Radiologist Dr Jaco du Plessis, from SCP Radiology explained.

“After receiving a request from AWS Helderberg, we felt it was a good fit and would be of huge benefit to them. However, we have also donated to the public healthcare sector, with Tygerberg Hospital’s dermatology department being a recent recipient of a machine.”

In even more good news, ‘Fluffy’, the happy dog pictured with AWS Inspector Kyle Girodo and the ultrasound, has found his new home!
